Welcome back, Rainbow Brite?

Apparently, Hallmark is going to attempt a relaunch of Rainbow Brite. Big fans may know that they attempted this already back on 2004, but failed. They claim that it was because the Rainbow Brite of the 80's didn't fit the needs of today's children. I personally believe that's completely wrong, and that not only does the original concept of the 80's show fit today's kids, but they NEED those morals and themes. How could the idea of magic, happiness, friendship, and imagination NOT fit any child in any age? That isn't to say I'm not willing to give this new attempt a try. In fact, when I saw stickers featuring the new look of Rainbow Brite and her friends, I hesitated to even say that I like those designs BETTER than the original character designs. That's something I couldn't say about any of the My Little Pony relaunches. Each relaunch was cute in its own way, but I didn't believe they held a candle to the old characters.

Here's a link to an article talking about what the new storyline is supposed to be about: http://www.valleyscenemagazine.com/archives/aug72009/kids/

There's a rougher idea of the new design of Rainbow Brite on the left side of the header. I think she's prettier on the stickers I bought today, though. In fact, the very first thing that went through my head was that this looked like a cross between Rainbow Brite and Moondreamers. I like it. Especially the purple girl. Don't know her name yet, but she has a staff with a crescent moon on top, so she got super bonus points with me.

Yes, there will be Rainbow Brite fanart. After seeing those stickers, I have a very strong urge to draw some of these girls.

Sadly, I have a bad feeling they've removed the boys from this new series. I haven't looked into it too much, but I've seen it happen in other relaunches of 80's toys. Namely MLP.

Depending on how cute they are, some of the dolls from the new line are sure to find their way into my home. ^_^

I'd like to see the return of Stormy. I don't think I ever pictured Rainbow Brite to be a toddler though.
I don't think so, either. I always kinda saw her as being about 10 years old or so. Not a toddler. She's way too mentally advanced to be a toddler.
I never did watch Rainbow Brite to be honest, My Little Pony and CareBears were a lot more popular here when I was growing up.

The characters do look very cute though I have to admit that.
I only watched a bit of Rainbow Bright when I was younger, but I know what they do to re-vamped cartoons. It was painful to watch the new Scooby-doo cartoons. Here's hoping that isn't what happens. :/

You're right, though; the art is pretty, at least.
Tell me about it! When they relaunched My Little Pony in 2003, not only was I and a bunch of other people eager to see the new movie that never came out, but we were hoping for a new show along the same tune as the old one. They had some animated specials that came with some of the special ponies, but they were... well, nowhere near as awesome as the old stories were. There are literally no villains and no real conflicts. Basically, it went along the lines of, "Oh no! Rainbow Sugar Treat is sad because she lost her favorite hair clip! I will make her happy again by baking her a cake and surprising her!" Yeah... not very awesome at all...
